Book Launch Report - Dynamics of Difference: Inequality and Transformation in Rural India documents the book launch jointly organised by the Public Affairs Centre (PAC) and the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) to discuss contemporary dimensions of inequality and social transformation in rural India. The event featured presentations by the book's editor, Dr. Narendar Pani, along with distinguished academicians, policymakers, and practitioners who examined inequality beyond conventional income-based measures. Discussions highlighted intergenerational, regional, gender, occupational, and intra-household inequalities, exploring how migration, land fragmentation, labour market transitions, educational disparities, and uneven access to opportunities shape rural transformation. Panelists also reflected on the effectiveness of public policies, rural employment programmes, and welfare interventions in addressing persistent structural inequalities while emphasising the need for evidence-based policymaking and multidimensional approaches to inclusive development. The report concludes by underscoring the importance of understanding the interconnected nature of social and economic inequalities to inform equitable governance, strengthen public policy, and promote sustainable and inclusive rural development in India.
