Sujit Kumar Chowdary is a civil servant and public policy professional with over 30 years of experience in public administration, fiscal policy, public finance, and governance. An officer of the Indian Postal Service (1991 batch), he currently serves as the Director of the Public Affairs Centre (PAC), leading initiatives in governance research, public policy, and institutional development.

 

He holds an M.A. in Sociology from Patna University, an M.Phil. in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a Master of Business Laws from the National Law School of India University.

 

Over his career, he has held senior leadership positions including Director of the Fiscal Policy Institute, Government of Karnataka, Chief Postmaster General, Bihar, and Financial Advisor to the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation. His experience spans public administration, fiscal policy, public finance, governance and institutional reform, with a strong focus on policy research, financial management and public sector effectiveness.

Key Contributions / Achievements:

Led work on fiscal policy and public finance through his role at the Fiscal Policy Institute by strengthening Gender Budgeting and introducing Child Budgeting in Karnataka. He contributed to public-sector administration and institutional governance through senior positions in the Department of Posts and the Government of Karnataka. At PAC, his work focuses on strengthening the organisation’s governance, policy research, and institutional capacity.
