Dr. Shekhar Seshadri

Dr. Shekhar Seshadri is a distinguished child and adolescent psychiatrist with over four decades of experience in clinical practice, teaching, research, and public mental health. He retired as Senior Professor, Dean, and Head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. Throughout his career, he has played a pioneering role in advancing child and adolescent mental health services in India, particularly in the areas of childhood trauma, child protection, gender and sexuality, life skills education, and psychosocial care. He was instrumental in establishing the NIMHANS Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Project, which evolved into SAMVAD, a national initiative for child protection, mental health, and psychosocial care supported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. His work has significantly influenced mental health policy, child protection systems, professional training, and legal frameworks across India and South Asia.
