Dr. Vahini Aravind

Dr. Vahini Aravind is a Professor in the Department of Electronic Media, Bangalore University, with two decades of teaching, research and academic leadership experience in media and communication studies. Her academic expertise encompasses Health Communication, Development Communication, Communication and digital media Research, Visual Communication, Data Journalism, media analytics, Media Literacy and emerging communication technologies. Her research interests particularly engage with the intersection of communication, public health, technology and social development. Her contributions extend beyond conventional academic scholarship to science communication, documentary filmmaking, MOOC development and digital educational content production. She has undertaken minor and major research projects. An accomplished author and media practitioner, published over 50 research articles, general articles, book chapters and written script for 10 science documentaries. An active academic mentor and resource person, Dr. Vahini, regularly conducts national and State level workshops and faculty development programmes on research methods, data analytics, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and digital pedagogy, digital learning tools, e-contnet production etc. Guided 5 PhD dissertation and over 100 documentaries. Dr. Aravind is also associated with academic and professional bodies.

Produced 10 science documentaries, awarded 5 PhDs, mentored over 100 dissertations and documentaries, Chairperson and member of Board of studies and Board of examiners of over 40 institutions across India. Established new Post-Graduate programmes in Film Making, Graphics and Animation, Undergraduate programmes in Multimedia. Delivered e-content for CEC, produced MOOC course on media research. Organised over 100 special lectures, workshops, faculty development programmes, seminars and conferences. Member of various academic and administrative committees of the state government and the university.
