Dr. H. S. Sudhira
Urban Planning Researcher, Geoinformatics Specialist, and Sustainability Expert
Dr. H. S. Sudhira is an urban planning researcher, geoinformatics specialist and sustainability expert with over two decades of experience in spatial research, urbanisation, environmental sustainability and urban governance. He holds a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and leads Gubbi Labs, an independent research collective that uses trans-disciplinary approaches to study sustainable ecosystems, liveable settlements and public policy.
His research has focused on land-use and land-cover change and its implications for environmental sustainability, natural resources and transportation. His broader work examines the evolution and growth of towns and cities, planning practices, governance and urban systems, including through the use of complexity sciences and geospatial technologies. He is also a researcher and neogeographer who works with and promotes free and open-source mapping tools.
He established Research Matters as a science communication initiative to bridge the gap between research institutions and the wider public, and continues to lead the initiative. He also volunteers with the India Literacy Project and serves as a Trustee.
