Our focus is to make citizens and civil society organizations play an active role in improving governance. In this regard, we undertake and support research, publish findings, and facilitate collective citizen action through awareness raising and capacity-building activities. At any time of the year the Centre works on a number of projects funded by a number of International and National agencies. The Centre also works with central and state governments of India.

The main objective of the campaign was to substantially increase the percentage of eligible voters participating in the election. The campaign targeted the youth and the upper-middle class, sections of the electorate who generally tend to be alienated from the electoral process.

The Election Commission of India undertook the revision of electoral rolls in Bangalore during October and November 1999. PAC supported the campaign by initiating an information campaign that motivated Bangaloreans to verify the voters’ list, to disseminate information on the summary revisions and to facilitate the redress of grievances related to summary revisions.

During the first phase of elections to local bodies in Karnataka in May 2001, the Centre created a network of interested groups in various parts of the state, including Mysore, Tumkur, Davanagere, Hassan, Shimoga, Bhadravathi, Doddaballapur, Challakere and Chickmagalur, which would partner with PAC to conduct the It’s Time to Act campaign.
