Enhancing Community Centered Governance in Climate Change Affected Coastal Areas
Public Affairs Centre, Bangalore and Peoples Action for Development, Vembar organized a one-day workshop on “Enhancing Community Centered Governance in Climate Change Affected Coastal Areas” at Ramanathapuram on 14th October, 2010. The workshop aimed at bringing various interveners working in the district in the areas of environment, livelihood and climate change.
The following were the objectives of the workshop
- To bring together various interveners, stakeholders involved in supporting different livelihoods – Government Departments, Research, National Bank, NGOs, CBOs/Unions and share details/status of different livelihoods in Ramanathapuram district.
- Sharing of data, details, insights and perceptions with regard to changes in the coastal environment, GoM Biosphere and impacts of Climate Change on the livelihoods of communities.
- Sharing of coastal regulations and its implications on fishing communities
- Sharing of details of the project initiated in the GoM region and its status
- Seek support from various department and agencies to contribute to achieve the project objectives.
This is a beginning of a series of dialogues between the interveners and players and the communities to bring them together to look in to the issues of climate change and environmental governance linking with their livelihoods.
Participants were mainly from the Government Departments, Research Institutions, NGOs, CBOs, Networks and Federations.
