PAC has new Director

Dr. Thampi’s professional career encompasses inter disciplinary work profiles in the areas of governance, public accountability & corruption, public policy reforms, civil society interventions, conflict resolution, entrepreneurship and strategic management. These initiatives have been carried out in association with international foundations and development agencies, national and provincial governments and civil society organizations.
He has been associated with Public Affairs Centre (PAC) from its early days; from 1996-2002, he was a senior member of the Research & Advisory team, and was also heading Public Affairs Foundation, Bangalore, a sister organization of PAC. From April 2002 – May 2003, he worked with Transparency International as Head of Asia/Pacific at their Secretariat in Berlin. Some of the recent initiatives of Dr. Thampi are: Technical support for a Consumer Voice Project on Water Sector Reforms in Africa; Designing user feedback mechanisms for Monitoring & Evaluation of pro-poor services in Ethiopia for the UNDP; Developing case studies on best practices in Social Accountability in Asia; Design & Conduct of a Pilot Participatory Service Delivery in Tanzania; Conceptual support to the design and implementation of a Survey of Corruption in South Asia; Advisory support to the World Bank-led Donor Consortium to design and implement a Governance Score Card Survey in four major cities in Bangladesh; Advisory support to the DFID, UK to provide a framework for evaluating an Access to Justice Programme in Bangladesh and; Conceptual support to DFID and Transparency International to design and implement a benchmark assessment to track the impact of a Judicial Integrity Programme in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Thampi holds a doctoral degree in Entrepreneurial Studies and postgraduate qualifications in Economics, Journalism & Mass Communication and Conflict Resolution. Dr. Thampi writes frequently on themes related to politics, civil society, governance and international affairs. Dr. Thampi is an Advisory Member of Transparency International’s Steering Group on Surveys and Indices, the Editor of Public Eye – a Quarterly publication from PAC and the Founder Member of IT for Change, a non profit network working with a mandate to explore possibilities of matching technological possibilities with development realities in the Global South.
He has recently been elected to the Governing Board of Building Partnerships for Development (BPD) as the Civil Society Director. BPD is a global network that brings together the public, private, donor and civil society sectors to support multi-sector partnerships to provide water and sanitation services in poor communities. BPD is a registered UK Charity (with it's Secretariat in London) and is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.
