The Citizens Against Corruption project of PAC with PTF was launched on October 15, 2008 through the dissemination of a Call for Proposals to over 1000 CSOs and NGOs involved with advocacy and rights realisation in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The Call invites proposals to curb corruption in government services through the use of the RTI Act (in India) and with the assistance of community organisations. The Call has received an overwhelming response; about 150 initial concept notes have been received. The concepts are currently under review and shortlisted NGOs will be contacted soon for follow up activity on proposal development.
In the meantime, a proposal from the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra, Dehradun has been approved for support for one year beginning January 2009. RLEK, which has a long-standing record of entitlement realisation in the sub-Himalayan region, will work with community organisations in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts of Uttarakhand to support government agencies to streamline and improve the implementation of NREGA activities in these areas.
